About

Peter Williams is a self-taught printmaker from Newcastle upon Tyne, now based in London. Taking up linocut printing in 2017, he has developed skills in various mediums including screen printing, letterpress, and drypoint etching.

Most printmaking takes at South London Makerspace, a community workshop where Peter volunteers as the head screen printing technician. This role involves teaching members how to screen print, providing support, and keeping the space up and running!

As part of the 2022 edition of The Late Shows weekend of arts and culture, Peter led a series of printmaking workshops at Tyne Bank Brewery. Participants were guided through printing t-shirts and heat-setting the ink by explaining the processes involved.

Involved in multiple waves over the years, Peter joined the One Of Many initiative founded by Sheffield printmaker John Pedder. This involves sending prints to people for free, on the agreement that

recipients will donate an amount to a charity of their choosing.

In 2020, Peter took part in the Relief Conspiracy print exchange organised by Scott Minzy. This involved printmakers editioning a run of twenty prints and distributing them to twenty printmakers based around the world!

Around Newcastle, PeterMakesPrints has traded The Ouseburn Market, Tynemouth Market, Full Circle Brew Co., and Proven Goods.

Also a keen sewer, Peter enjoys making patchwork quilts using both traditional and self-drafted patterns. In the future, he is looking to incorporate hand-dyed and printed fabrics into the mix.
